Whiteys. I'm sorry guys. I don't like writing negative reviews. Hopefully this helps you and not hurts you, because you need to improve your food if you're going to keep serving it. Let's start with the good. The woman at the front was polite, friendly and helpful. That's a star and a half. If it wasn't for her I'd give this place 1 star instead of two. I came here seeing a picture of wonderfully smoked brisket, and I have to say I was excited. On top of that, it mentioned that the owner/chef had won many local BBQ awards. Wow, this place was sounding great! Right? I sampled a bit of everything- ribs, brisket and pulled pork, the trifecta. The ribs were the best of the three. They were the only thing I finished. But they were dry and had too much sauce already on them. Oh, and speaking of sauces- they had one hot and one sweet. The hot one was too sweet, and the sweet one was like jam. The hot one was much better, it was edible, but it lacked heat. End sauce tangent. The brisket didn't even appear smoked. It was tender but tasted completely bland, no flavor whatsoever, and for some reason there was liquid in the container. Was is braised? If so, it was braised in water and no seasoning. The pulled pork was awful, just inedible. Come on dude. That was not made today. If you have won awards, it wasn't for serving what you served today. I want to believe in your awards, maybe you had a bad week. But if I can be more satisfied with a burger from Hardee's across the street you aren't going to make it. Step it up, if you've won awards, start treating your customers like the judges. Give us the competition meats, not the discarded mishaps. My food total was $35, and thats with gross slaw and greasy cornbread. For that price I expect much much more. Please take this advice and step it up, I will try you again next time I'm in the area.

It's hard to find good BBQ in central Illinois. I've been driving past Whitey's for a while now, and I decided to stop in last week. I called ahead and placed a pickup order, which was ready in about 20 minutes. I got a combo plate of a half-rack of ribs, side (chili mac), and drink. It was $17. That might seem a little steep for a carry out lunch, but it was a LOT of food. The ribs were extremely meaty and fall-apart tender, as they should be. Personally, I would've liked a little more flavor in the actual meat of the ribs -more rub or something- but they were still smokey and delicious. The sauce made up for any deficiencies, as it was tangy, sweet, and had just enough kick. The chili mac was a killer side. It was their BBQ chili thrown in with some homemade mac and cheese. I'd probably order this as a standalone dish, if I could. Maybe I can, I didn't check. All in all, I'm a fan. Whitey's looks the way a BBQ joint should: a little seedy, but clean and filled with awards. Swing by and treat yourself, I'm glad I did.

As far as I can tell from what I ate, I can't imagine how Whitey's garnered any good reviews. It's expensive and nothing tastes seasoned...or even smoked. My family got several dishes to share on our first and only visit: pulled pork, pulled chicken, chicken wings, baby back ribs and brisket. We also got potato salad, coleslaw and mac n cheese. If you like a good, smoky char on your BBQ, Whitey's is not the place for you. The pulled meats (ordered sans sauce) all came out wet and flavorless. Some folks prefer a wet BBQ I suppose, but I'm more in the charred bark camp myself. This was not at all what I was looking for. The brisket was wet like the other meats but oh so tender and the highlight of the loose meats. The ribs came closer to my preference, but still they lacked any real punch, and even the ribs gave no detectable indication of having been slow smoked. Nor did I taste any sort of rub on them. Just...meat. Tasted more like oven roasted ribs that got slapped on a grill at the end than smoked ribs. The chicken wings were definitely the best thing at the table. Supposedly smoked and then fried, they tasted quite like what I make at home when I grill my wings. Very crispy and even better when you add their bbq sauce. Overall, the sides were ok. All told, I'd much rather hit up Hickory River or Texas Roadhouse for a similar meal at a comparable price: $50 for a family of four.

We spent $47 on two dinners to go and were given two 1/2 thimbles of sauce. We asked for more, but the waitress said she wasn't supposed to give us more. Hope the $.34 of sauce was worth my future business :(

Great tasting BBQ. Doesn't disappoint. Sometimes they will run out of a menu item or two due to high demand so be conscious of that, otherwise highly recommended for your BBQ fix.

If you want the biggest bang for your buck style of BBQ, you may want to visit elsewhere. The food is pretty decent, however the portion control here needs to be liberated. When I think of BBQ, I think of heaping mounds of pulled pork, layer upon layers of tender brisket, and stacks on stacks of ribs. Instead, this place has every intention of redefining your every preconceived notion of BBQ. The servings are small here and the sides are not worth mentioning at all. I had the Burnt Ends sandwich, and no, the sandwich did not come with sides. Those are purchased separately. You might want to bring a magnifying glass and hover that over your bbq to make you feel better about your food purchase. If you MUST try this place, I suggest the Burnt Ends sandwich and either their hand-cut regular fries or their cole slaw. What I don't recommend is their sweet potato fries. Whitey's can't seem to cook them properly. These came out tasting like churros with the texture of a leather purse.

I have enjoyed eating the food here. I have had the ribs, brisket, pulled pork and they were great. The chicken wings aren't drummettes they are actual wings that are smoked and are excellent. The bbq nachos have brisket and pulled pork. The burnt ends are outstanding. I had never had smoked meat loaf and tried Whitey's and it is delicious. Friends you aren't finding the bbq places in this area that are competing in contests like this place is and turning out great products. Check out their Facebook occasionally they cook up surprise foods not on the menu.

Ok, so it might not look like much from the outside or even in the dinning room. But these guys know how to make BBQ! The brisket is AMAZING and my favorite. But the ribs are wonderful too. All of their sides are really good too. The baked beans have pieces of brisket in them, the coleslaw is great, and potato salad is hard to resist. You must go to this place!

I have eaten at Whitey's many times and have never had a bad experience. The BBQ is excellent. The baked beans are sweet and tastey. The pulled pork and brisket are tender and smoked perfectly. The Staff always get my order right. Parking is tough because of the location, but its worth finding a spot. Can't wait to go back. Love this Place.

i tried whiteys bbq and it was ok. too much brown sugar!!!! the beans were waaaaaay too sweet yo! i like a more kc style bbq and this was not that- more of a georgia style to me. dont get me wrong southern style sweet pork bbq is good but with this restaurant being in the midwest, they should stick to a midwest flavor profile, imo. KC is midwest and the bbq capital of the world i wouldve been happier with a sweet heat sauce option at the very least and the rub used was not very potent. the owner was very friendly and the food was fresh and fast- just wasnt the bbq flavor profile i was looking for bitch!!

We have been to this new place 4 times now, twice for carry out, twice for eat in. We have loved the pulled pork, pulled chicken, smoked meat loaf, and the ribs are the best ever. We've had excellent brisket as carry out, but as a sandwich, can end up with a little too much fat. The sides have been very good, but not always the same taste each time. The smoked meat loaf, which is a dinner weekly special, is so delicious. The onions smoked in the meat loaf, and were so good. I would like to see this on the menu more often. The bbq sauce is their own recipe, and is kinda sweet. I bought a bottle and use it at home. I would like to see them invent an additional spicy sauce. I will always choose local, and I feel Whitey's will become a local favorite, especially when it expands to a bar.

I give Whitey's 4 stars for the quality of the food, certainly not the decor. The spareribs were very meaty whereas most spareribs tend to have more fat than the baby back ribs. The sauces that evening were exceptional. My wife said her brisket was very tasty as well. The owner wins awards throughout the region and I see why. Go early before the crowds and before they run out of food.

I had the barbecue chicken sandwich, potatoe salad, and baked beans. The sand which tasted great with plenty of meat, the potatoe salad was like homemade, and the baked beans had plenty of meat but were alittle liquidy. I would definitely go back.

Checked out this new BBQ spot on Monday. My plan was to take it to go since I was on my way home from a morning meeting at work. It probably would have been a better deal money wise had I gotten the lunch special. But since I was not eating in I didn't really want the drink. Anyway I chose a brisket sandwich, potato salad, and corn bread. As I was waiting, someone was coming in to pick up his to go order. Mine happen to be ready at the same time so there was confusion as to what food went with what person. The fella ahead of me mentioned BBQ sauce to the cashier so I thought I had better check my order to make sure everything was there. Opening up the to go container and looking at my sandwich, I was very disappointed. One thick large slab of fatty meat was sitting on a flattened sesame seed bun. Mind you I have had brisket at many different places so know what it should look like. Sometimes there is fat around the edges but that is easily trimable. However this nasty looking piece of meat was probably 35-40% fat which was through the middle of the slab. Had I trimmed away the fat I would have been left with very little. So they got me another piece of meat. Which I thought was nice . When I got home to try and eat the sandwich it still had a lot of fat. I will not be ordering the brisket again. Very disappointed. On to the sides. Don't bother with the corn bread. You can make better at home. The potato salad looked good but when I sampled it lacked salt and pepper. Which of course are easily fixed. My bill with tax was over $9 bucks. Not a good value unless your impressed with the food which I was not. I plan to give them another shot and order the pork BBQ. I will probably eat in and also try the fries. Didn't try them last time due to driving home and not eating right away. BTW if you order the brisket make sure to ask for BBQ sauce on the side. The brisket does not come sauced and you have to ask for it. Which the person at the counter tells me after the fact so I am passing it on.
